Openpatent is an opensource patent suite, built to work with locally running models. It enables running models via LM Studio or vLLM on the local machine and making all patent related agentic operations totally local.

OpenPatent lets inventors, patent attorneys, and small firms search prior art, draft full applications with claims and specifications, respond to office actions, perform freedom-to-operate and validity analyses, and manage portfolios—all without subscriptions, cloud dependencies, or data leaving the user’s computer. Built on the OpenCode agent framework and compatible with local models via Ollama, LM Studio, or any OpenAI-compatible endpoint,

The project supports bring-your-own-key setups while keeping cloud providers strictly optional. The suite covers every stage of patent work through dedicated sub-agents and tools, from generating abstracts and drawing descriptions from plain-language input to litigation support such as claim construction and infringement analysis. Available under the MIT license with prebuilt installers for Windows, macOS, and Linux, OpenPatent stands out as a privacy-first, cost-free alternative to proprietary legal tech platforms. By making advanced AI capabilities accessible offline and transparent, the project aims to level the playing field for independent inventors and resource-limited organizations in an industry long dominated by expensive, centralized services.
